Women in technology face ongoing gender discrimination and visibility challenges

Recent industry reports and editorial reflections highlight the persistent challenges women face within the technology and media sectors. Computer Weekly has introduced its ‘Women in Tech to Watch 2026’ list, aimed at recognizing impactful professionals who are driving diversity and inclusion efforts, even if they have not yet reached the highest levels of industry influence.

Simultaneously, WIRED magazine has launched its first ‘Women Issue’ to address the lack of female visibility and the presence of a ‘testosterone culture’ in tech discourse. The magazine’s global editorial director noted that despite women holding many powerful roles, they often remain in the shadows. She also shared personal experiences of gender discrimination and sexism encountered over a 17-year career, emphasizing that gender dynamics remain a significant hurdle for women in media and technology.
