Women-Only Running Groups Expand in Colombia and Argentina

In Colombia, the Club Gacelas Running community has rapidly expanded its network of group training sessions, promoting physical health, injury prevention and social projects such as food drives. Organizers say that running together multiplies motivation and creates a safe space for participants to relieve work stress and build lasting friendships.

In Argentina, women‑only running and cycling groups have formed spontaneously across the country. Denise Valiente, founder of a Bogotá‑style group that now includes about 50 women aged 18‑55, explained that participants join because “they feel more comfortable in a group only of women.” The group meets every Saturday morning in the Bosque, runs together, and often shares picnics afterward, offering a supportive environment for mothers and young professionals.

Both initiatives illustrate how gender‑specific community sport is being used to improve health, confidence and social cohesion in Latin America.
