Women outpace men in higher education achievement
Women are increasingly outperforming men in higher education across Greece and the European Union. At the University of Macedonia, recent awards for top first-year students revealed that 14 out of 17 top performers were female.
Eurostat data for 2024 supports this trend, showing that of the 4.5 million higher education graduates in the EU, 2.6 million were women compared to 1.9 million men. In Greece, female graduates account for approximately 60% of all tertiary education completions.
Gender differences are notable across various fields of study. Women represent 14.5% of all graduates in business, administration, and law, compared to 10.6% for men. Additionally, 11.1% of all graduates are women in health and social welfare, while men hold a 10% share in engineering, manufacturing, and construction.
