Women's basketball sees record viewership at FIBA World Cup
The 2026 FIBA Women's Basketball World Cup held in Berlin set new records for attendance and viewership. Average attendance per game reached 6,556 spectators. Television broadcasts saw massive engagement, including 1.3 million viewers for the USA vs. Italy game on TNT and a peak of 1.5 million during the USA vs. France final. In China, the match between the national team and the Czech Republic drew 14.1 million viewers on CCTV-5.
Digital engagement also surged, with social media content reaching over 3.3 billion impressions and video views hitting 1.4 billion. The official tournament website recorded 4.9 million visits and over 20 million page views.
In Lithuania, interest in women's basketball is rising ahead of the upcoming European Championship. The Lithuanian club Kibirkštis recently secured a spot in the 2026–2027 EuroLeague group stage after victories against Polish and Hungarian clubs. The Lithuanian national team, led by Vilius Stanišauskas, will compete in the upcoming European Championship for both medals and a pathway to the Los Angeles Olympics.
