Women's college soccer season opens with UMBC win and William & Mary draw

The 2026 women's college soccer season opened with mixed results for regional programs in Maryland.

UMBC secured a 3-1 victory against Mount St. Mary's. Zoe Brossman opened the scoring early following a goalkeeper error, followed by a first career goal from freshman Brooke Clagett. Although Mount St. Mary's narrowed the lead via a penalty kick by Fineen Cregan, Hailey Ahmed scored a late goal for UMBC to seal the win. UMBC goalkeeper Amara Codd recorded six saves during the match.

William & Mary played to a 1-1 draw against Loyola Maryland. Mia Abbey scored for the Tribe in the 25th minute, assisted by Ava Magnuson and Brooke Oswald. Loyola Maryland equalized shortly after through Katie Ormerod. Both goalkeepers, Gwen Doughty for Loyola and Mia Tegeris for William & Mary, helped maintain the deadlock in the second half.
