Women's cooperative in Hakkari completes first organic honey harvest

Five women members of the Demeter Agricultural Development Women's Cooperative in the Yüksekova district of Hakkari have completed their first honey harvest following participation in the ‘Organic Beekeeping Project’.

Supported by the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, the women received four months of theoretical and practical training. Through a 75 percent grant, they acquired approximately 50 beehives and necessary equipment, which they established in the villages of Kamışlı and Kısıklı.

The cooperative, founded in 2019 by Derya Taşar and 13 other women, previously engaged in livestock breeding with government support. The newly produced organic honey is being sold through the cooperative’s breakfast salon and via e-commerce platforms.
