Women's film festivals held in Abidjan and Salé

The sixth edition of the Salon du Cinéma au Féminin took place in Abidjan, Côte d'Ivoire, from October 1 to 3, 2026. Hosted primarily at the Palm Club Hôtel in Cocody, the event focused on the distribution and discoverability of cinematic works in Francophone Africa. General Commissioner Rita Ambeu emphasized the need to increase women's involvement in all sectors of the industry, including creation, production, distribution, and decision-making roles.

In Morocco, the Salé International Women's Film Festival (FIFFS), organized by the Bouregreg Association, concluded its recent edition. The festival highlights films directed by women and the representation of women on screen. The awards ceremony recognized several winners, including the Grand Prix for the fiction feature Hijra by Shahad Ameen and the Grand Prix for the documentary La Cour des grands by Hind Bensari. The event also included tributes to various figures in cinema and civil society, including a posthumous tribute to sociologist Fatema Mernissi.
