Women's fishing initiatives launched in Aysén and Baja California Sur

In the Aysén Region of Chile, 20 individuals received vocational certifications related to artisanal fishing. The group included 17 women certified as shellers and smokers, and three men certified as filleting specialists. This initiative, funded by AquaChile through the Mesa Mujer de la Pesca Artesanal, aims to recognize and include women in the productive development of coastal communities. The certifications allow participants to be officially registered in the Registry of Connected Activities, providing visibility to essential artisanal fishing roles.

In La Paz, Baja California Sur, the first Onco Reto Ferre-Mar 2026 women's fishing tournament is scheduled for October 31 and November 1. Organized by the Secretariat of Tourism and Economy (SETUE) and Grupo OncoReto, the event promotes women's participation in sport fishing while raising support for women facing breast cancer. The competition will focus on the dorado species and features a guaranteed prize pool of 300,000 pesos.
