Women's health survey highlights menopause awareness gaps

A global survey of 6,000 women conducted by Johnson & Johnson reveals a significant awareness gap regarding how menopause affects physical health. While many women recognize symptoms like mood changes and sleep disruption, only 40% connect eye health changes to the menopause transition. The survey found that 66% of women have experienced dry or irritated eyes and 60% have experienced blurred vision, yet only 18% have discussed these issues with an eye care professional.

Beyond vision, menopause is also linked to joint pain and stiffness due to fluctuating estrogen levels. Experts note that falling estrogen can affect joint tissues and potentially accelerate bone loss. Management strategies for these symptoms include maintaining a healthy diet rich in calcium and vitamin D, as well as engaging in strength training to preserve muscle mass and bone density.
