Women's increasing control of global wealth signals potential power shift
A significant shift in global wealth is underway as women gain increasing control over financial assets. According to UBS, women currently hold approximately one-third of the world’s investable private wealth. In the United States, women are projected to control nearly 40% of wealth by 2030.
This transition is expected to accelerate as nearly $105 trillion changes hands by 2045. Baby Boomer women alone are projected to assume control of roughly $40 trillion as they outlive their spouses. Beyond the monetary value, research from J. P. Morgan Private Bank indicates that nine in ten women view money as a tool for achieving their purpose.
Experts suggest this trend could evolve from a wealth transfer into a power transfer. However, challenges remain regarding influence; while women are acquiring more assets, they often lack equal representation in investment committees, fund partnerships, and the informal networks that drive capital allocation and decision-making.
