Women's sports and history initiatives launched in Brazil
Various initiatives in Brazil are focusing on female empowerment and the history of women in sports. In Caldas, Minas Gerais, the 'Lute Como Uma Garota' event brought together participants from 11 cities for a program featuring capoeira, capoterapia workshops, and theatrical performances. The event, organized by the Grupo de Capoeira Filhos do Bonfim de Caldas, included a women's championship where Bárbara Liz secured first place in three distinct categories.
In Rio de Janeiro, the 'Pioneiras nas Escolas' project, created by former national team player Duda Luizelli, aims to bring legends of the Brazilian Women's National Football Team to municipal schools. The project consists of ten in-person meetings designed to share the history of the 'Pioneiras'—the women who overcame legal prohibitions and social prejudice to play football. Each session includes a lecture on gender equality and sports history, followed by a sports festival where former athletes demonstrate fundamentals and engage with students.
