The 2026 Women’s T20 Asia Cup has commenced in Dubai, with Thailand securing a six-run victory over Hong Kong, China in the tournament opener. Batting first, Thailand posted 120/9, anchored by captain Naruemol Chaiwai’s 43 runs and Nannapat Koncharoenkai’s 27. Despite strong bowling from Hong Kong’s Marina Lamplough, who took 4/11, Thailand’s bowlers successfully defended the total, restricting Hong Kong to 114/7.

As the tournament progresses, attention shifts to India, the seven-time champions, who are scheduled to face Thailand in their Group A opening fixture. India enters the competition facing scrutiny over recent form and consistency following a disappointing T20 World Cup campaign. The Indian squad, led by Harmanpreet Kaur, will rely on the opening partnership of Smriti Mandhana and Shafali Verma to establish momentum.
