Wonder and Electra deploy battery-integrated kitchen technology

Food technology company Wonder is partnering with energy supplier David Energy to install plug-in battery systems at 21 of its New York City locations. These 120-volt batteries are designed to offset power use in Wonder’s all-electric kitchens by charging when electricity prices are low and discharging during peak periods. The initiative aims to reduce operational costs and support the power grid through demand-response programs.

In a similar technological application, startup Electra is outfitting induction stoves with 5-kWh lithium iron phosphate batteries. These units can plug into standard 120-volt outlets, avoiding the need for expensive electrical panel upgrades or rewiring. The batteries allow the appliances to charge during periods of high renewable energy production and discharge during peak demand, while also providing backup power during blackouts.
