Wonderful Indonesia Gastronomy 2026 opens in Solo and Yogyakarta

Tourism Minister Widiyanti Putri Wardhana officially opened the second annual Wonderful Indonesia Gastronomy (WIG) 2026 at Pura Mangkunegaran in Solo, Central Java, on September 26. Under the theme ‘From Local Roots to Global Recognition’, the event aims to strengthen Indonesian gastronomy as a major tourism draw and introduce local culinary richness to the international stage.

Solo and Yogyakarta serve as the primary hubs for the event due to their status as centers of Javanese culture, encompassing palace traditions, markets, and contemporary culinary developments. The program, running from September 26 to October 4, 2026, includes various activities such as WIG Talks and Forum, an Artisan Market, a Culinary Festival, Indonesia Restaurant Months, and chef collaborations.

The initiative seeks to showcase that Indonesian gastronomy is rooted in local identity, history, and tradition. To bolster international visibility, the Ministry of Tourism invited 18 media representatives and tastemakers, including participants from organizations such as Forbes Travel Guide, La Liste, The World’s 50 Best, and CNN International.
