Wong Tai Sin water pipe burst causes supply disruption in Hong Kong

A 300mm diameter water pipe burst near Ma Chai Hang Road in Wong Tai Sin on the afternoon of the 29th, leading to a complete suspension of water services for Wong Tai Sin Estate, including its shopping mall.

The Water Supplies Department responded by deploying 20 water tankers and 40 water tanks to provide temporary relief. A specialized team was also dispatched to deliver water bags and bottled water to residents in need. Large crowds gathered at Kai Sin House, Tat Shan House, and Chong Shan House to collect water, with some residents reporting having to make multiple trips throughout the night to secure enough water for cooking and hygiene.

Repair works are currently underway, and authorities expect water supply to be restored by 3:00 AM on the 30th, barring unforeseen technical difficulties. Due to the burst, Wong Tai Sin Road remains closed between Ma Chai Hang Road and Nga Chuk Street, causing diversions for several bus routes, including KMB 7M, 11C, 211, and Citybus A23.
