WONGOSOL provides support and livelihood training for FGM survivors in Liberia

In Liberia, the Women NGOs Secretariat (WONGOSOL) is implementing the Liberia Fight FGM Project to support survivors of female genital mutilation (FGM) and gender-based violence. Supported by the United Nations Trust Fund to End Violence Against Women, the initiative provides both immediate relief and long-term economic tools.

The project is distributing over 600 dignity kits containing essential hygiene and personal care items, such as sanitary pads, towels, and clothing, across six counties. To foster long-term resilience, the program is also preparing livelihood assistance for 365 women who have received training in vocational skills, business management, and Village Savings and Loan Association approaches.

Survivors emphasize that healing requires more than just addressing past trauma; it necessitates being heard without judgment, being believed, and reclaiming bodily autonomy through informed healthcare and personal choices. WONGOSOL Executive Director Esther S. David Yango stated the initiative aims to connect immediate support with economic empowerment to build safer, more sustainable futures for women and their communities.
