Wonju opens AI Convergence Innovation Education Center for medical AI talent

Wonju City and Gangwon State have officially opened the AI Convergence Innovation Education Center to cultivate specialized talent in medical AI and digital healthcare. The center, established through a project by the Ministry of Science and ICT, has received a total investment of 5 billion won.

Located in the Innovation City Knowledge Industry Center, the facility is equipped with GPU-based simulation infrastructure to support practical training. The curriculum includes five key areas: AI fundamentals, medical AI, robotics, digital twins, and industrial planning. The center aims to train 160 students this year, with a long-term goal of educating 1,375 professionals by 2030.

The opening was accompanied by the ‘NEXT AI 2026 WONJU’ forum, which brought together representatives from the National Assembly, government ministries, and global technology companies to discuss trends in physical AI and next-generation computing infrastructure.
