WooCommerce adopts EAN and GTIN standards for global product identification

WooCommerce stores can now use standardized product identifiers such as EAN (European Article Number) and GTIN (Global Trade Item Number) to improve inventory accuracy and feed synchronization across major marketplaces. EAN codes are 13‑digit barcodes assigned by GS1 and are recognized worldwide, while GTIN encompasses EAN, UPC and ISBN formats.

Adding these identifiers in WooCommerce involves enabling the GTIN field in the product data, selecting the appropriate type, entering the code and saving the changes. Accurate use of GTIN/EAN enhances visibility on platforms like Google Shopping and Amazon, reduces listing errors, and can be streamlined with plugins for large catalogs. Store owners are advised to verify each code and follow specific marketplace requirements.
