Wood heating contributes to nearly half of fine particle emissions in Rennes

In the Rennes metropolitan area, wood heating is responsible for approximately 50% of PM2.5 fine particle emissions. Data released by the local authority indicates that individual heating installations account for 43.3% of these emissions, while collective and industrial wood heating facilities contribute an additional 4.3%.

While wood is classified as a renewable energy source, its combustion presents significant public health challenges due to atmospheric pollution. To address this, the metropolitan government is offering residents the opportunity to borrow air quality sensors to better understand local pollution levels.
