Woodbridge officer honored for stopping New Jersey bus hijacking

Woodbridge Police Officer Matthew Kammerer has been honored for his actions during a bus hijacking on the New Jersey Turnpike. During the incident, an armed individual took control of a bus and stabbed the driver in the arm.

Officer Kammerer, who was on patrol at the time, intercepted the vehicle near the Garden State Parkway exit. He successfully confronted the suspect, who was holding a knife to the driver's neck, and ordered him to surrender. After the suspect stepped off the bus and complied, the New Jersey State Police took the individual into custody.

Following the confrontation, Kammerer provided emergency medical assistance to the driver to stabilize the stab wound until additional medical help arrived. Kammerer, 29, joined the Woodbridge Police Department in January after previous service with the NYPD and the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office.
