Woodside Browse Gas Project faces renewed Australian government review over reef climate impact

The Australian Conservation Foundation successfully urged the Environment Minister to reopen public consultation on Woodside’s proposed Browse Gas Project. The review will consider whether the project's climate emissions should be assessed under national environmental laws for their impact on the Great Barrier Reef and other nationally significant ecosystems.

New scientific evidence indicates that emissions from the Browse Gas Project could cause the loss of up to 30 million additional coral colonies during future mass‑bleaching events. Faith‑based groups, through the Australia Religious Response to Climate Change (ARRCC) network, are encouraging people of faith to submit comments supporting a full climate‑impact assessment.

The ACF‑ARRCC partnership is providing a ready‑to‑use form for submissions, aiming to ensure that the project's climate consequences are fully evaluated before any approvals are granted.
