Woodside Fire forces evacuations and Highway 1 closure in Sonoma County

A fast‑moving wildfire dubbed the Woodside Fire ignited on July 30, 2026 near Timber Cove on Highway 1 in Sonoma County, California. By evening the blaze had grown to roughly 75‑143 acres, with containment ranging from 0 % to about 30 % as crews worked.

The Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office issued a mandatory evacuation order for zone SON‑1D1, covering about 350 households in Salt Point State Park, Timber Cove and nearby communities, and an evacuation warning for zone SON‑1D2 further inland. A temporary shelter was opened at Laguna High School in Forestville. Highway 1 was closed between Timber Cove Road and Stewarts Point‑Skaggs Springs Road.

State and local agencies deployed dozens of firefighters, air‑tankers, helicopters, bulldozers and water tenders. Cal Fire, the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection, led the response.

Smoke from the fire spread across the Bay Area, prompting the Bay Area Air District to extend a Spare the Air alert through August 1. Residents in Sonoma, Marin, Napa, Solano and surrounding counties were advised to limit outdoor activity, use N95 masks, and avoid wood‑burning devices.
