Woody Johnson acquires minority stake in Aston Martin F1
American billionaire Woody Johnson has acquired a minority stake in the Aston Martin Formula One team. Johnson, who owns the NFL’s New York Jets and holds a stake in Premier League club Crystal Palace, will join the team’s board of directors as vice chairman.
While the exact financial terms of the deal were not disclosed, reports suggest the stake may be approximately 15%. Johnson will not be involved in the day-to-day racing operations; instead, his role will focus on driving commercial growth and expanding the team’s presence in the United States market.
Lawrence Stroll, the controlling shareholder and executive chairman of Aston Martin, welcomed the investment, noting that Johnson’s experience and influential network would strengthen the team’s position. Johnson, a former U.S. Ambassador to the United Kingdom, cited his appreciation for the brand’s history and Stroll’s strategic vision as key motivators for the partnership.
