WOODZ and Shim Eun Kyung deny roles in controversial film ‘Tamako’
South Korean singer and actor WOODZ (Cho Seung Youn) and actress Shim Eun Kyung have clarified that they will not participate in the upcoming Japan-South Korea co-production film, ‘Tamako’.
Initial reports suggested both actors had accepted roles in the film, which is directed by Junji Sakamoto. The movie’s plot, centered on a boy who loses his parents in the 1945 Hiroshima atomic bombing and later moves to South Korea, sparked controversy due to its sensitive historical themes involving war and colonial history.
During a live broadcast on September 27, WOODZ explained that after reviewing the script and understanding the story, he had already informed his agency of his decision to decline the offer. He expressed distress over the inaccurate reports circulating on social media. Shim Eun Kyung’s agency also issued a statement confirming that she had decided not to perform in the project, effectively addressing the public concerns regarding the film's sensitive subject matter.
