WOODZ denies casting in Hiroshima-themed Japanese film
Singer WOODZ (Jo Seung-youn) has clarified that he will not be appearing in the Japanese film ‘Damako’, which centers on the aftermath of the Hiroshima atomic bombing. During a recent live broadcast, the artist addressed reports claiming he had been cast alongside actors such as Shim Eun-kyung and Ando Sakura.
WOODZ explained that after reviewing the script and understanding the sensitive historical subject matter, he had already informed his agency of his decision to decline the role. He noted that the reports of his casting were inaccurate and appeared after he had already turned down the project. He expressed disappointment that his name was included in casting lists for a project he had not accepted.
The film ‘Damako’ follows a boy who loses his parents in the 1945 atomic bombing and later struggles with his identity while living between Korea and Japan. Following the casting rumors, online discussions had emerged regarding the historical implications of the film's narrative.
