Woolmead flame sculpture set for return to Farnham
The Woolmead flame sculpture is expected to be installed on the Brightwells Yard building in Farnham within the coming weeks. The project follows a five-year effort to secure a permanent location for the four-and-a-half-metre piece.
Installation required additional structural surveys of the building to ensure it could support the sculpture. Responsibility for the project is shared between Farnham Town Council, which holds nominal ownership, and Surrey County Council, which owns the building. The installation process was previously delayed after developer Crest Nicholson withdrew due to financial difficulties.
The sculpture is currently being stored at a private studio in West Street Cemetery, where it was previously restored by sculptor Ian Bishop. While the Farnham Public Art Trust indicates the piece is ready for mounting, a specific date has not yet been confirmed by the town council.
