Woori Bank completes first KR government bond and FX package via ICSD

Woori Bank has completed the first package transaction in South Korea involving the trading and settlement of government bonds linked with foreign exchange (FX) services through an International Central Securities Depository (ICSD).

This achievement marks the first actual transaction by a domestic bank following the January allowance for offshore settlement via ICSDs. The ICSD network, which includes entities such as Euroclear and Clearstream, allows international investors to trade Korean government bonds through an integrated account at the Korea Securities Depository without needing to appoint separate local custodians or open individual accounts.

By providing a combined service of bond supply, KRW currency exchange, and FX derivatives for risk management, Woori Bank offers a one-stop financial solution for overseas institutional investors. This initiative aligns with efforts to increase market accessibility following the inclusion of Korean government bonds in the World Government Bond Index (WGBI).
