Worcestershire County Council to review financial management findings

Worcestershire County Council is set to discuss the findings of an independent review regarding its financial management and governance at an upcoming meeting. The review was a condition of the council’s requests for Exceptional Financial Support (EFS) over the last two financial years.

To maintain a balanced budget, the authority required £33.6 million of EFS in 2025/26 and £59.9 million in 2026/27, which allows the council to borrow money and sell capital assets to cover day-to-day costs. The Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government has stated it expects the council to implement robust plans to manage risk and support financial recovery. The council is required to report to the Ministry by the end of September with a plan to reduce its future reliance on EFS.
