WordPress 7.1 is scheduled for release on 19 August 2026, coinciding with WordCamp US. The update is currently in its final testing stages, with the third Release Candidate already available for developers.

The release focuses on significant design and workflow improvements. Key features include code-free styling capabilities such as responsive styles for desktop, tablet, and mobile, and an ‘Apply Globally’ function that allows users to review and select specific style changes. New interactive states for buttons and navigation links will also be introduced within the Site Editor.

Additional updates include new native blocks, such as Tabs and a Playlist block with waveform displays. The media workflow is being enhanced with a dedicated full-screen image editor and client-side image processing, which enables browser-based compression and format conversion for files like HEIC and AVIF. Collaboration tools are also being expanded with @mentions, inline comments, and email notifications within the editor.
