WordPress 7.1 to introduce client-side media processing

WordPress 7.1 is scheduled for release on August 19, introducing significant architectural changes to the content management system. A primary feature is the introduction of client-side media processing. Unlike previous versions that relied on server-side PHP for image resizing, format conversion, and EXIF rotation, these tasks will now occur directly in the user’s browser. This shift is intended to improve site performance, increase server efficiency, and reduce resource consumption.

Additional updates in version 7.1 include enhanced team collaboration tools such as new Notes features, UI refinements in the admin dashboard, a persistent admin bar, and a new Identity screen in the Site Editor. The release also features expanded design tools, new and upgraded blocks, and various updates tailored for developers.
