WordPress core developers debate Blogger vs Builder focus
WordPress core contributors are highlighting a split within the project between two self‑identified groups. "Bloggers" are content creators who value reverse‑chronological feeds, comments, RSS and social features, while "Builders" are site designers, agencies and merchants who prioritize custom fields, page‑first layouts and a robust site editor.
Developers note that Builders currently dominate core discussions and hold a larger share of the platform’s economic activity. Some, including Dave Smith, are exploring a simpler default homepage and advocating for more Blogger‑oriented tools such as enhanced RSS, ActivityPub, ATProto support, blogrolls and pingbacks. The community believes both sides can coexist, as they have since early WordPress versions.
