WordPress security: basic measures and static site conversion

To protect WordPress websites from cyberattacks, users can implement several fundamental security measures. These include regularly updating the WordPress core and plugins to patch vulnerabilities, removing unnecessary plugins to reduce the attack surface, and utilizing security-focused plugins such as SiteGuard WP Plugin for login URL changes or CloudSecure WP Security for two-factor authentication.

Additionally, maintaining reliable backups of the database and files is critical. It is recommended to use tools like All-in-One WP Migration and Backup and to regularly test the restoration process to ensure data can be recovered in an emergency.

For enhanced security, users can convert WordPress into a static site, effectively removing the PHP-based CMS from the public server. This can be achieved through two primary methods:

1. Headless Architecture: Using the built-in REST API or the WPGraphQL plugin to fetch data for a frontend built with frameworks like Next.js or Nuxt.js.

2. Static Site Generation Plugins: Using plugins like Simply Static to export the existing site as HTML files. This method preserves the current theme and block editor styling while allowing the site to be hosted on secure, static environments like AWS S3 and CloudFront.
