Workday in acquisition talks with Silver Lake at $51 billion valuation

Workday, a provider of human resources and financial management software, is reportedly in acquisition talks with the private equity firm Silver Lake. Following reports of these negotiations, Workday’s market valuation rose to over $51 billion, with shares jumping nearly 18 percent.

Analysts suggest a potential buyout could bolster confidence in the enterprise software sector, which has faced valuation pressures due to fears that artificial intelligence might disrupt traditional software services. A successful acquisition would signal that the market may have overvalued the threat of AI to established companies with deep corporate integration.

Workday has demonstrated financial resilience, reporting fiscal 2026 revenue of $9.55 billion, a 13.1 percent increase. Its subscription revenue also grew by 14.5 percent during the same period. Experts note that the company’s recurring revenue model and high operating margins make it an attractive target for private equity investors.
