Workday report highlights contract management challenges in enterprises

A Workday study involving 7,000 respondents across ten countries highlights significant challenges in enterprise Contract Intelligence (CI). The ‘Workday 2026 Contract Intelligence Index Report’ reveals a lack of clarity regarding contract ownership, with 77% of respondents stating that only a few people in their organization know who actually owns contracts.

While 42% of respondents in the US identify the legal department as responsible for managing contracts post-signature, only 37% of in-house legal professionals believe they are responsible for this task. In other surveyed regions, such as Italy, Spain, the UK, and Germany, the percentage of those identifying legal as the responsible unit is slightly lower, ranging from 34% to 39%.

To address these operational inefficiencies and the resulting ‘CI Divide,’ organizations are increasingly looking toward legal workflow software. These platforms aim to replace manual processes like email and spreadsheets with automated, AI-powered systems that centralize information, track request statuses, and streamline the routing of legal tasks to ensure consistent and repeatable processes.
