Worker dies in Las Choapas flood in Veracruz
Arturo Fernández Sámano, a 45-year-old auto parts vendor from Xalapa, died by drowning after his vehicle was swept away by floodwaters in the municipality of Las Choapas, Veracruz.
The incident occurred on Monday while Fernández was driving a Volkswagen Caddy along the Libramiento Búfalo. Heavy rains associated with cold front number 2 caused water levels to rise, carrying the vehicle toward a flooded area near the Villa Cuichapa road.
Emergency teams and municipal Civil Protection personnel located the partially submerged vehicle on Tuesday. Authorities recovered the body from the cabin, and criminal experts from the local prosecutor's office have since conducted a formal removal of the remains. The vehicle has been impounded as part of the ongoing investigation.
