Workers demand end of 6‑day work schedule at Brazil's Guarulhos Airport

On 20 May 2026, employees and union representatives staged a protest in the main hall of São Paulo‑Guarulhos International Airport. Participants carried banners, signs and drums while chanting “Fim da 6×1” to call for the termination of the 6‑day‑on, 1‑day‑off work rotation that they say exhausts staff.

The demonstration was organized by several labour groups, including Sinteata, Femaco, Fenascon and Siemaco‑SP. Protesters also urged Congress to approve Bill 4146/2020, which would regulate the profession of urban‑cleaning workers and street sweepers. They argued the schedule harms physical and mental health, limits family time and undermines human dignity.

Union leaders stressed that the issue extends beyond a single bargaining demand, framing it as a broader social advance needed for Brazil’s workforce.
