WorkerTech El Salvador concludes four-year innovation phase

The WorkerTech El Salvador project has concluded a four-year phase aimed at strengthening the innovation ecosystem and improving conditions for independent and informal workers. Driven by the Salvadoran Chamber of Information and Communication Technologies (CASATIC), BID Lab, and the European Union through its Global Gateway investment strategy, the initiative launched in 2022.

Throughout its implementation, the project addressed four specific innovation challenges targeting different worker segments: platform drivers and riders, domestic and care workers, freelancers, and workers over the age of 50. These efforts focused on critical issues such as insurance access, financial inclusion, credit, health services, and productivity.

A major outcome of the project was the support of 12 WorkerTech startups, which received US$1.4 million in impact investment to scale their market solutions. This financial support was paired with an incubation program providing specialized training and business model development. The project reportedly benefited approximately 13,500 workers.
