Workforce initiatives address AI impact in Tennessee and New York

Government and educational institutions in the United States are launching initiatives to address the impact of artificial intelligence on the workforce.

In Tennessee, the University of Tennessee’s Center for Industrial Services and the College of Emerging and Collaborative Studies have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to expand AI education. This partnership aims to upskill workers within the state’s manufacturing sector, building on a successful pilot program conducted with DENSO. The initiative focuses on helping companies increase productivity through customized training programs.

In New York, Governor Kathy Hochul has launched listening sessions through the FutureWorks Commission to gather input from workers, small businesses, and stakeholders regarding AI’s influence on employment. The sessions specifically target occupations vulnerable to automation, such as administrative, clerical, and customer-service roles. The commission is expected to propose policy recommendations by the end of 2026 to protect workers while leveraging technological advancements.
