Workforce mobility trends show shifting job seeker priorities

Recent reports indicate shifting dynamics in global workforce mobility. A FlexJobs survey of 1,700 workers found that 49% have changed or plan to change jobs within the next six months. Job seekers cited higher pay (28%) and remote work (24%) as primary drivers for leaving current roles, with 76% prioritizing remote options when applying for new positions.

Despite these intentions, other data suggests a slowdown in the willingness to move. The Randstad Employer Brand Research 2026 report notes that 24% of global workers intend to switch jobs in the first half of 2026, marking a second consecutive year of declining mobility intentions.

This trend is not uniform across age groups. Gen Z remains the most mobile demographic, with 30% intending to switch jobs, whereas older workers show significantly lower levels of movement. Experts suggest that while lower attrition might appear to benefit employers, it may reflect a decreased willingness to leave rather than improved organizational health.
