Workman expands product lines with recovery wear and anime collaborations

Japanese retailer Workman is diversifying its product offerings through two key strategic expansions: functional recovery wear and anime-themed apparel.

In its recovery wear line, the company has introduced outer jackets and pants. Addressing concerns regarding efficacy, developers stated that the far-infrared technology used to promote blood circulation can penetrate standard inner layers, making the outer garments effective even when worn over other clothing.

Simultaneously, Workman is aggressively pursuing anime IP collaborations with titles such as ‘Jujutsu Kaisen’, ‘The Apothecary Diaries’, and ‘My Hero Academia’. This strategy aims to attract new customers, particularly targeting a demographic that is 60% female to leverage social media influence. Unlike traditional anime merchandise, Workman focuses on subtle, everyday designs that allow fans to wear the apparel in public without it being overtly conspicuous. The company also utilizes original, specially drawn artwork for many collections while maintaining highly competitive pricing, with items like T-shirts starting around 980 yen.
