Workplace and accidental electrocutions reported in India

Two separate fatal electrocution incidents have been reported in India, highlighting different circumstances regarding electrical safety.

In Jalgaon, Maharashtra, 42-year-old electrician Kiran Dattatray Sapkale died while performing repairs near a Bharat Petroleum plant in the MIDC area. Although a permit had been obtained to disconnect the power supply for the maintenance work, electricity reportedly surged while he was on a pole, causing a fatal shock. Local colleagues have called for an investigation into how the power was restored during the task.

In Ganjbasoda, Madhya Pradesh, 65-year-old mason Prabhulal Gupta died following an accidental contact with a high-tension line. While standing on a third-floor balcony, Gupta reportedly spat gutkha, and the liquid stream made contact with a nearby 11kV live wire. Experts noted that the moisture and electrolytes in the saliva acted as a conductor, allowing the current to travel back to him.
