Workplace culture shifts focus toward integrity and sustainable productivity

Current discussions regarding modern corporate culture highlight the importance of personal integrity and the pitfalls of constant availability. Integrity in leadership is defined as a core competency where executives must act with authenticity, reliability, and empathy, ensuring that personal values guide long-term decision-making rather than short-term self-interest.

Simultaneously, there is a growing critique of work cultures that equate constant availability with productivity. Systemic coach Lena Wittneben argues that the pressure to remain perpetually reachable often leads to a loss of focus and decreased efficiency. This environment can foster 'stress bragging,' where employees display exhaustion as a sign of indispensability, and 'wellbeing shaming,' where those setting boundaries are devalued.

The consequences of these cultural trends are significant. Data cited from a 2024 DAK report indicates that sick days due to mental health issues have increased by more than 50 percent over the last decade. Furthermore, a Deloitte survey suggests that approximately 40 percent of working time is lost to activities that do not contribute to actual progress.
