Workplace mental health requires strategic organizational changes
Experts are calling for mental health to be integrated as a core strategic element of business management rather than being treated as a series of isolated wellness initiatives. In observance of World Mental Health Day, professionals emphasize that preventing burnout requires structural changes to working conditions and organizational culture.
Key risk factors identified include excessive workload, pressure to meet deadlines, lack of autonomy, poor leadership styles, and interpersonal conflicts. Modern challenges such as digital hyperconnectivity and the inability to disconnect from work also contribute to cognitive overload and psychological distress.
Psychologist Isabella Meneghel, from UIC Barcelona, argues that sporadic activities like mindfulness courses are insufficient. Instead, she advocates for continuous prevention strategies, including improved leadership, better communication, and providing employees with the resources and autonomy necessary to manage their tasks effectively.
