Workplace safety reports show fatalities in Malta and France

Recent data highlights varying trends in workplace safety across Malta and France. In Malta, three fatal workplace accidents were recorded during the first half of 2026. The Occupational Health and Safety Authority reported 1,015 non-fatal accidents during this period, a slight decrease of 26 cases compared to the same period in 2025. Construction accounted for the highest share of non-fatal accidents at 15.3%, followed by administrative and support services. Notably, back injuries represented approximately one-third of all reported cases.

In France, the CGT union reported a record number of workplace fatalities in 2025, stating that 783 people died due to workplace accidents, an increase of 19 compared to 2024. When including commuting accidents and occupational diseases, the union identified 1,331 total work-related deaths. These figures specifically reflect employees in the private sector under the general regime and do not include agricultural workers, public sector employees, or independent contractors.
