Workplace studies highlight need for diverse office designs

Recent research from the Gensler Research Institute and Steelcase indicates a significant disconnect between modern work requirements and current office designs. A global survey suggests that employees are increasingly seeking workspaces that support diverse activities, including deep concentration, collaboration, and mental recovery.

Data shows that only 17% of employees believe their current office improves their performance. Many workers report that traditional open-plan layouts, originally intended to foster communication, often result in distractions and a lack of privacy. Instead, professionals are prioritizing physical and mental wellbeing, noise control, and access to technology.

Experts suggest the office of the future must function as an ecosystem of specialized zones. This includes quiet areas for reflection, reconfigurable spaces for learning and meetings, and environments that offer access to natural light and nature to help reduce digital fatigue.
