WorkSafe promotes health and safety during National Safe Work Month
October marks National Safe Work Month in Australia, highlighted by regional outreach and industry discussions regarding workplace health and safety (WHS).
In Warrnambool, WorkSafe is hosting a free event at the Lady Bay Resort on October 8 as part of its annual Health and Safety Month roadshow. The session will feature inspectors discussing local data trends, health and safety issues, and return-to-work obligations. Data from the 2025-26 financial year indicates that WorkSafe inspectors conducted 407 visits to workplaces in Warrnambool, issuing 134 compliance notices. During that period, 204 injury claims were accepted in the region, including 25 mental injury claims.
Legal experts are also emphasizing the importance of integrated safety systems. Discussions around the month's theme, ‘For life: why work health and safety matters’, highlight that safety must be a core management responsibility rather than a secondary policy. This includes addressing psychosocial risks, such as excessive workloads, which carry the same legal weight as physical hazards.
