World Aquatics announces upcoming rule changes for artistic swimming

Artistic swimming is expected to undergo further rule changes as the sport prepares for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games. Lisa Schott, chair of the World Aquatics Artistic Swimming Technical Committee, announced that upcoming adjustments will specifically affect the length and structure of free routines.

Speaking during the World Aquatics Junior Artistic Swimming Championships in Budapest, Schott noted that the event was the largest Junior Worlds in the sport's history, featuring nearly 300 athletes from 35 federations. She highlighted the increasing depth of talent within the sport and noted that the current scoring system has introduced greater unpredictability in competition results.

Budapest is scheduled to host the World Aquatics Championships again in 2027, which will serve as a platform for athletes to secure qualification spots for the Los Angeles Olympics.
