World Ayahuasca Forum to convene in Girona, Spain

The inaugural World Ayahuasca Forum is scheduled to take place in Girona, Spain, from September 11 to 13, with preliminary activities beginning on September 9. The event aims to center Indigenous leadership in the global conversation regarding the psychoactive medicine.

More than 100 Indigenous spiritual leaders from the Amazon and other regions will gather at the Palau de Congressos and Fira conference centers. Co-organized by the Yorenka Tasorentsi Institute, the Nixiwaka Institute, and the International Center for Ethnobotanical Education, Research and Service (ICEERS), the forum will focus on themes of ethics, safety, regulation, and intercultural alliances.

The gathering, envisioned by Ashaninka spiritual leader Benki Piyãko, will utilize dialogue, presentations, and traditional showcases rather than conducting ceremonies or offering ayahuasca. The forum operates under the theme “New Time of Alliance.”
