World Bank and FAO propose strategies for water and food security

International organizations are proposing strategic frameworks to address global resource crises. The World Bank has identified key pillars to combat the global water crisis, emphasizing the need for improved budget execution. A report noted that between 2009 and 2020, budget execution averaged only 72%, meaning approximately 28 cents of every dollar allocated went unspent. The Bank suggests that water projects often struggle not due to lack of interest, but because institutions lack the capacity to translate long-term goals into concrete actions within fiscal timelines.

Simultaneously, the FAO is advocating for integrated territorial planning and secure land tenure to bolster food sustainability. The organization highlights that guaranteed access to natural resources and secure land rights can reduce poverty and enhance food security. To be effective, these efforts require thorough local assessments of biophysical and social dynamics, alongside inclusive community participation to protect marginalized populations and ensure sustainable land management.
