World Bank and Moldova discuss future development partnership
Prime Minister Vasile Tofan and World Bank Country Manager for Moldova, Ulrich Schmitt, met to discuss ongoing development projects and future cooperation priorities for the Republic of Moldova. The discussions focused on critical sectors including infrastructure development, energy resilience, digitalization, agriculture, and the improvement of public services.
The World Bank currently maintains an active portfolio in Moldova consisting of 14 operations valued at a total of 735.4 million euros. This portfolio includes 11 investment projects, one budget support program, and two projects in advanced preparation stages. These initiatives target areas such as energy efficiency, water and sanitation, education, health, small and medium enterprise development, and rural connectivity.
Historically, the partnership has seen over 45 operations completed in Moldova, totaling approximately 1.6 billion euros. While current cooperation follows the 2023–2027 Partnership Framework, the World Bank has already begun the process of developing the framework for the subsequent period.
